Kerala, served by many dynasties in the ancient times, has a rich historical background. The illustrative mention of this state in various significant Sanskrit works which include revered epics Ramayana and Mahabharata testify its golden past. It also finds its beautiful description in Kalidasa’s Raghuvamsa.

The ancient Kerala was occupied by different sect of Dravidians which later on also became the house to the Aryan immigrants. They underwent drastic transformation in their lifestyle, customs and habits. Aryan systems of architecture, astrology, medicine and art were introduced to the rich language and literature culture of Dravidians. The present day lifestyle of Kerala reflects the fusion of the Dravidians and the Aryans. Kerala was elevated to statehood by The States Reorganization Act of November 1, 1956.

Geographical Assets
Geographical location has intriguing features that gives this state edge over other Indian travel destinations. This narrow south western state of India is flanked by the Western Ghats on the East and the Arabian Sea on the West. It constitutes 1.18 per cent of the country. Neighboring it to its east and north are the states of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka respectively. Its geography is such that it divides the east west cross-section into the distinct regions of coastal region, midland plains and hills-valleys. The dense forest houses undiscovered animals along with trees and plants of medicinal importance.

The ideal time to visit the beautiful state is from October to March. However Kerala enjoys pleasant weather conditions all round the year. Till few years back people used to skip the months of June and July due to heavy monsoon but now people come especially during these months to witness this paradise during heavy rainfall.

Cuisines
Food served in the austral Indian states is considered to be one of the healthiest diets. The food of Kerala is cooked, served and eaten in quite a fascinating manner. Traditionally cooked in coconut oil the light and delicious food is served on a banana leaf and is eaten by hands. The main food items are rice, coconut and vegetables, apart from fish. The flavor to the delicacies is added by using chili, curry leaves, mustard seeds and coconut milk.

Influential Art and Culture
Characteristics of Kerala’s culture have been inherited from the Tamil-heritage region, Tamilakam and the southern coastal region of Karnataka. Kerala’s affluent cultural legacy has seen centuries and is still evolving. It has given birth to some of the marvelous art forms, particularly folk dances and martial arts. The dance folk forms which have been acclaimed worldwide are Koodiyattom, Kathakali, Kerala Natanam, Mohiniaattam and Padayani.

Kalaripayattu - Kerala’s ancient martial art form with its own medicine system is the most oldest and scientific systems of martial training existing today.
The age old Ayurveda has a worldwide influence. Massages from herbal oil have a rejuvenating experience. It prevents body diseases apart from curing them. Every year, Kerala registers increase in the influx of travelers which travel from distant places to experience this magic called Ayurveda!
